I was not completely happy with Strings in Love Posted on March 29th, so spent some more time on it. I need a better picture because the color overlays work so much better.
This is an experiment in a combination of techniques I have been working on with many layers of color. It is another play on the shape of musical instruments.
I like to visit music stores that are packed with a variety of instruments from around the world. This is a preliminary idea for a possible series inspired by the interplay of shapes of instruments set up next to each other.
This small painting was textured first and then coated with an irridecent gold paint. It was then layered with a burnt orange and black. It shines in the light.
I ran across a painting that I did when I took an encaustic workshop. This one was inspired by it. It is getting close to looking like encaustic with a layer of yellow over red and then scratched through. I use a semi gloss coating of acrylic medium to finish it with layers of gloss coat before that. I really like the look of encaustic and want to experiment more with getting the look of it.
I hope to inspire people to connect to the Mystery and Magic of life through the images I create. I am honored to be living in the San Francisco Bay Area with close access to a city filled with creative energy. I make my living creating and selling my art and have since 1987.
