Ballad of the Horns

Ballad of the Horns
20"x16"
I like to go to small musical events where I can get right up front and sketch and photograph the musicians. I will often compile sketches and or photos to create compositions for paintings.
I recently purchased a Wacom tablet that has a screen right on the tablet for more ease in creating new compositions. Today and yesterdays posts are composites of various sketches and photos I have taken. I enjoy creating musical theme paintings it is like dancing to the music all over again.

This is done on gallery wrap canvas and will be available on my website

Okay so why so many hand paintings you may ask? Well I have been studying Hand Analysis for almost 15 years now. You can read about it at my marydelave.com website. Hands do have stories to tell and as I started to paint a variety of hands I loosened up on literal translations of the symbolism as I have learned it in the hands. I am having fun making up stories in my mind that the viewer may translate in a variety of different ways. It makes it more fun for me.  I do like to hear the stories that others tell about my paintings.

Winged Whispers

This is a continuation of the bird series painting from yesterday. If you put this painting on the right side of "In Flight"  you can see that they are done from the same "under painting" I originally layered paint on a larger piece of paper and then cut it into smaller pieces.

In Flight

This is acrylic on paper with no raised texture. I first work with multiple layers of color in a very loose manner without knowing what image will emerge. I let each layer dry and put a clear coat between them so as to produce color intensity and depth.

Blue Jay

"Intrepid Horizons"
20"x16"
Acrylic on Canvas

Here is the Blue Jay that is part of my Shared Vision Series mentioned yesterday. My boyfriend titled it such because Jays are so inquisitive and brave in their opinions of just what they think of you. The human eyes looking through seem to see beyond the horizon.

OWL

Seeing Through the Dark
20"x 16"
acrylic on canvas

I have a two day show today and tomorrow so I will be posting the larger paintings that I finished this week because I will not have a chance to paint. This painting is part of my Shared Vision beyond the human animal series. I am focusing on birds right now because they are so wonderful to paint. You can see on my website I Now have in the fliers category: Hummingbird, Crow, Snowy Egret, Cardinal, Bee, Dragonfly, Owl and tomorrow Blue jay.  Most of these fliers appear frequently in my everyday life here in Stinson Beach California.  All except the Cardinal and the red color drew me in. We have a wonderful lagoon right next to the ocean that attracts a myriad of wild life. The Audubon Society of Marin is located right next to it. I wonder if I will someday make paint my way through all of the critters around here.

Bee's Descent
7"x5"
Acrylic on gessoboard

I am not quite sure what to say about this one.  Definitely a doodle painting. I am still experimenting with just how much intricate texture I can put into a painting before it is too much texture. This image brings to mind the creative process of entering a honey comb of possibilities.

Cats in the Bushes

"Cats in the Bushes"
7"x5"
Textured Acrylic on Panel
$125

This was an exploration textures in a new plaster mixture.
I started out with nothing in mind and put texture and doodles on the panel and this is what emerged. After the plaster dried I experimented with a different way of applying color to this technique.

Musical Progression

SOLD
Musical Progression
10"x8"

This painting was started last week not as a daily painting, but I just finished it yesterday and had it at an art show today. I am posting it as my daily painting as I did not have a chance to paint today, I did do some drawings of a band at a party after the show. I would like to play more with using the keyboard as a path or walkway as in this painting.
