I am not sure what to say about this one. The movement of feathers and fingers always capture my attention. I have been incorporating many birds into my paintings in the last year. I am fascinated by flight not only from the physical mechanics of it but also the symbolic meanings in mythology.

Here I am experimenting with reddish browns reminiscent of sepia tones in photos.  Warmer than some of the black and white paintings that I have posted on my website.
I will be experimenting more with black and white in smaller paintings.

"Tree Spirit"

Tree Spirit
7.5" x 5.5"
acrylic & marble plaster on paper
$150
$6 shipping in US

To me trees all have their own personalities. I like to talk to trees...and listen. I recently finished an audio book called "The Wild Trees: a story of passion and daring" (non-fiction) by Richard Preston. It made me want to become an explorer in the canopies of the trees. It was a wonderful book.

Tuba Tales

This painting was an Adventures in Texture with my musicians series. I used an undercoat of irridesent gold on the tuba. It shines at certain angles. Click on image to see a closeup.

Little Red Wagon

Something has always intrigued me about Little Red wagons. Maybe it is because they afford a kind of independence of mobility to the young. This one is not presently for sale.

"All Night Long"

"All Night Long"
7.5" x 5.5"
acrylic & marble plaster on paper
$150

I love music and love to dance. This painting was inspired from a sketchbook drawing that I did a few years ago. I treasure my sketchbooks from the past 30 years because they are an endless source of inspiration and remembering. I was taken with the shapes in the background of the figures enough to use it as a "thumbnail" for a larger painting. The painting title came from the song Good Time by Sam Cook.
"Get in the groove & let the good times roll
I'm gonna stay here till I soothe my soul
If it take all night long"

Painting a Day

Spiraling conversations
7.5 " x 5.5 "
acrylic on paper
$150

Here is the first small painting done for this blog. I love working small. I alway have. I now feel that I have a way to display small paintings without having to frame them. The size of the first daily paintings will be 5.5"x7.5". They are done on paper and finished so that they can be matted behind glass or mounted onto a panel. This painting is highly textured. Hard to see on the internet, but for those of you who have seen my work in person it is the technique done with a marble dust plaster.
This particular technique translates my drawings into paintings well. I have included a close up of the painting to help show the detail.

1st Attempt at blogging

SOLD
I decided to start a blog for the possibility of joining the dailypainters.com community. I like the idea of committing to a daily painting. Granted some of my daily paintings may be the size of a postage stamp - well maybe a postcard. I will start with posting a painting completed on Friday Feb 14th-much bigger than a postcard at 16"x20"x1.5" just to start the post. It is called Musical Merger and was inspired by an impromptu Jam session with musician friends on Super Bowl Sunday. I brought along my guitar, but I am much better at painting and drawing so the other instruments I brought were sketch books, watercolor pencils, brushes and camera. We had a great time. I spent most of the time drawing and eating. The others played lots of music and formed a band with the tentative name of "Super What" because when my boyfriend Al emailed friends to let them know that we would not be watching the Super bowl at the party one friend wrote back and said "Super What?"

Musical Merger it is 20"x16"x1.5 with the sides painted and ready to hang.
It is a highly textured painting done with acrylic paint & a plaster base of marble dust on canvas
The price before shipping and Ca tax is $1500
